This is a good comment. At current, the meta-model has been scoped beautifully to reflect a sound business processing paradigm. However, I feel that other efforts may produce equally valid processes for SMEs. We can easily identify 15-20 other modeling paradigms (Workflow Management, Decision Support Problem Technique, Gantt, Flow Chart, etc.) that are widely used in practice today. Through the BP focus on the meta-model in UML, I feel that these contrasting paradigms are being neglected even though they provide very viable solutions that meet the needs of the ebXML business community. Would we have the same meta-model if a different paradigm were used? We can have a theoretical discussion on mappings between the models; however, this is not the same as explicit, simple recommendations for business process representations as you pointed out are needed. Moreover, these recommendations should be manageable by all members of the larger ebXML community, including SE and ME. On this note, I do apologize that because of the time constraints on my joint interaction between the POC and BP that I cannot dedicate more time toward effecting this need.
