Subject: RE: Schema & BP Spec: Items for today's BP/CC meeting
Neal, Regarding an XML Schema version of the BP Spec, Karsten tells me you are working on this. I have already generated one, anticipating the request. My methodology was quite simple: 1. Use XML Spy to create an XSD from the existing DTD (Spy does not support the PR version, but the only difference I see is duration) 2. Change the appropriate elements to the existing datatypes a. Boolean b. uriReference c. duration d. enumeration This allows the same XML to be validated by both a DTD and Schema merely by assignment within Spy. I like XML Spy! I plan on providing a Schema version along with an updated DTD by COB today. Tools available for working with schemas are limited. If ebXML is a standards body, it can't deliver only a schema when schema is standard. Also, there are 2 other schema specifications being worked on by 2 other standards organizations, TREX by OASIS and RELAX through ISO. I think it would be wiser to deliver a DTD as the official deliverable and a schema as an 'added value'.
