Business Process Specification Schema Project
Version 0.3, DRAFT
1 Objectives
1.1 Purpose
The purpose of the project is to coordinate changes to the ebXML Business
Process Specification Schema. This project will help ensure that Business
Process Specification Schema and related specifications have alignment and
support the ebXML vision of electronic commerce.
This project proposes to bring together key artifacts of work from the
ebXML project and jointly continue their development with other project
initiatives in OASIS and UN/CEFACT. These projects include, but, are not
limited to the following:
- UN/CEFACT Modeling Methodology
- ebXML Business Collaboration Protocol Specification
- ebXML Business Collaboration Patterns and
Monitored Commitments Specification
- OASIS ebXML Collaboration Protocol Profile and
Agreement
- OASIS Messaging (ebXML Transport, Routing, and
Protocol)
- OASIS Registry (ebXML Registry and Repository)
1.2 Scope
This project directly supports one of the key eBTWG deliverables -- the
Business Process Specification Schema -- as identified in the eBTWG
Mandate. The intent of this project is to review and coordinate suggestions for
change to the BPSS, make technical improvements to the BPSS, and implement
limited changes to the BPSS recommended by other projects in UN/CEFACT
(including eBTWG and the TMWG), and, to the extent appropriate, OASIS
(including ebXML Collaboration Protocol Profile and Agreement, ebXML Messaging
Services, ebXML Registry, and ebXML Implementation, Interoperability, and
Conformance).
2 Deliverables
The project deliverables are:
- Business Process Specification Schema 1.0.1+
(This is the initial versioning of the ebXML Business Process
Specification Schema; this includes technical corrections to
version 1.0.1 and excludes any model or object changes other than as
necessary to resolve internal inconsistencies with the specification
and related specifications)
- Consideration of renaming of the Business Process Specification Schema to
the Business Collaboration Specification Schema
(This is to differentiate the schema with
specifications and implementations that address internal "business process,"
EAI, and workflow)
- Change log for Business Process Specification Schema
(Updating the 1.0 log with later received comments and issues)
- Requirements for Business Process Specification Schema 2.0
(Future versioning of the ebXML Business Process Specification Schema
document to incorporate other ebXML and related standards work and to
improve the standard and its related model and objects)
- Technical Reports and White Papers
(Additional documentation as needed)
- Identify opportunities to coordinate with other relevant standards
(Includes, but is not limited to, web services standards and
internal process flow/language standards)
3 Functional Expertise of Membership
The project team is a group of experts with broad knowledge and
experience in the areas of national and international business
processes and information exchanges crossing multiple vertical
industry and service sectors, as well as representation from the
technical development and implement ion community.
Each UN/CEFACT head of delegation (HOD) may designate one or more experts to
the project team. In doing so, they may delegate this task to one or more
organizations, which may be national, regional or international. Experts are
expected to contribute to the work based solely on their expertise.
4 Geographical Focus
The focus is global and cuts across vertical industries. The project
recognizes the need to support both large and small businesses that utilize
a variety of languages.
5 Initial Contributions
The following contributions are submitted as part of this proposal. It is
understood that these contributions are only for consideration by the
project team and that other participants may submit additional
contributions in order to ensure that as much information as possible is
obtained from those with expertise and a material interest in the project.
