Schema Neutral Model is a better term I believe ,but even that
does not confirm the essence.  The bottom line is that the
model is an abstraction layer - therefore it is NOT expressed
simply as UML.   HL7 ran into this too - UML does not provide 
the right tools and vehicle (it has some but not all) to get the 
job done - so they opted for creating their own schema and 
then deriving UML and other models from that.
