AS1 & AS2 are under the purview of IETF in the EDI over the Internet working
group.  AS1 (Applicability Statement 1) is designed to allow secure, reliable
exchange of business data over the Internet using SMTP.  AS2 is designed to
extend AS1 for HTTP.

These are point-to-point transfer protocols.  Although originally designed to
transfer EDI data, they are in fact payload agnostic just as ebXML is.
