Subject: RE: [ebxml-dev] Anyone else rather perturbed by IBM's recentannouncement....
The real difference is that ebXML UN/CEFACT-OASIS got IPR release for SOAP prior to its inclusion. This OTOH is a surprise. It's not obvious what IBM thinks they own from the IPR notice. http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/ebxml-cppa/documents/ibm_ipr_statement.shtm l Regards, David. -----Original Message----- From: Peter Kacandes [mailto:Peter.Kacandes@Sun.COM] Sent: Thursday, April 18, 2002 11:21 AM To: ebxml-dev@lists.ebxml.org Subject: Re: [ebxml-dev] Anyone else rather perturbed by IBM's recent announcement.... On the surface, it sounds like this is no different than the issues with SOAP. If I'm not mistaken, MS, IBM, and the rest of the six initiators of SOAP also have IP on that and the licensing terms for SOAP are also RAND. Nobody seems to be up in arms about SOAP (which would have consequences for ebXML MHS), so how is this different? Am I missing something? cheers pk >Date: Wed, 17 Apr 2002 20:17:22 -0500 >From: Norman Richards <norman.richards@commerceone.com> >Subject: Re: [ebxml-dev] Anyone else rather perturbed by IBM's recent announcement.... >To: ebxml-dev@lists.ebxml.org >MIME-version: 1.0 >X-Warning: all your base are belong to us >List-Owner: <mailto:ebxml-dev-help@lists.ebxml.org> >List-Post: <mailto:ebxml-dev@lists.ebxml.org> >List-Subscribe: <http://lists.ebxml.org/ob/adm.pl>, <mailto:ebxml-dev-request@lists.ebxml.org?body=subscribe> >List-Unsubscribe: <http://lists.ebxml.org/ob/adm.pl>, <mailto:ebxml-dev-request@lists.ebxml.org?body=unsubscribe> >List-Archive: <http://lists.ebxml.org/archives/ebxml-dev/> >List-Help: <http://lists.ebxml.org/elists/admin.shtml>, <mailto:ebxml-dev-request@lists.ebxml.org?body=help> >List-Id: <ebxml-dev.lists.ebxml.org> > > >> IBM has a patent covering electronic agreements which dates from before the >> ebXML CPA work started.
