Should an enterprise postpone development of global e-commerce projects in
the hope that global initiatives will take hold, creating standards that are
not only universal but will also change slowly over time? Absolutely not.
Enterprises should focus on selecting standards that serve their immediate
business needs, examine the standards that do exist (particularly if they
are global in character) and can be leveraged, and build in the flexibility
they’ll need in order to make changes later.
