Notice in delivering a 10K message say - once the connection is established and the transfer initiated, so you know you have a live link, then a simple query/response mechanism confirms the trading partner profile so you know that the interchange you are about to effect actually matches what the TP expects. I know that's a bit radical - why would you want to do that?! Of course at the exact second you try and do this the other server goes down - but under normal operating conditions - once you have a reliable link the overhead should be minimal... DW.
