I am forwarding this to the TRP group for awareness only.
**OTA continues to embrace ebXML for infrastructure as indicated**
(don't expect to be able to follow the links unless you are an OTA member).

Subject: OTA Version 2 Underway

Dear OTA Non-Supplier Working Group Member:
With the signing of the agreement between OTA and HITIS, work is underway
for the delivery of OTA's Version 2 Customer Profile with an anticipated
draft prior to the end of the year 2000. In addition to the merger of
profiles from both standards organizations, OTA' s Version 2 will take
advantage of the progress of other standards efforts in the field of XML
technology over the past year.
The OpenTravel Alliance has aligned with the global e-business initiative,
ebXML, to adopt a major infrastructure change that moves OTA into alignment
with the messaging structure developed by ebXML's Transport, Routing and
Packaging working group. With the recent announcement of the advancement of
the XML Schema Language to Candidate Recommendation status by W3C, OTA
version 2 will endorse the use of XML schema in addition to traditional DTD
validation, and adopt a different pattern of versioning that will
accommodate the rapid development of messages in the travel industry.
Draft architecture-related recommendations from David Marshall, VM Systems,
Inc. and Mike Guidone, Pegasus Solutions, are posted on OTA's Members-Only
site Forum: OTA Interoperability Committee:
https://warlock.disa.org/avf/ota/dispatch.cgi/INTEROP/notifySearch/fol/100001/date/2000-10-27-16-6
"A proposal for isolating change within XML using nested schema fragments
and an approach to versioning for OTA's future standards."
also at Forum: OTA Interoperability Committee:
https://warlock.disa.org/avf/ota/dispatch.cgi/INTEROP/notifySearch/fol/100001/date/2000-11-15-17-5
"A proposal for unique identifiers for trading partners, a generalized Read
transaction and an alternative representation for the Update verb."
Please take a few moment to read these documents and learn about what
changes are coming up in version 2.
The proposed changes will be reviewed at the next meeting of the OTA
Architecture/Profile Integration teams on November 29 and 30(superscript:
th) in Phoenix, AZ, hosted by OTA member company, Cendant Corporation.
OTA members from all work groups are encouraged to attend this meeting, as
the resulting Version 2 specification will lay the baseline infrastructure
for OTA's message development for the future.

If you are interested in attending the meeting in Phoenix, AZ on November
29-30th, please RSVP for further details and meeting information.

Sincerely,
Gloria
