Subject: More on Finance Sub-group comments - EDIFACT, BSR, TDED Cross reference

Re: the ebXML CC Finance Sub-group's comments on the Aggregate Analysis
document provided by Marianne Cockle, in
CCAnalysis_7_12-00_finance_comments.xls, at

Looking at the APACS Core Component analysis "sheets," I can see that
most of their core components are derived from EDIFACT elements in
certain contexts. This makes perfect sense, since EDIFACT was working
before quite adequately. Given that most of the core components work
will be likewise derived from EDI, would it be possible to augment the
spreadsheets with extra columns to annotate the EDIFACT segment and
element context which inspired the entry, and possibly even the likely
BSR Semantic Unit (BSU)? The latter are supposedly ISO/IEC 11179
consistent names, and seem to follow a pattern; see
http://www.diffuse.org/semantics.html#BSR. Maybe they can serve as the
basis of XML names.

I have included Marianne's spreadsheet, augmented by three additional
columns to carry the EDIFACT, BSR and UN/TDED contexts for the Payment
Instructions and Account Details Aggregate Entities. The examples have
a garish pink-purple background. Perhaps even the UN/EDIFACT URL where
element code values can be obtained might be included for coded
entries - an example is shown for the Geographic Area code within the
Payment Instructions.

I'd hate to see the EDIFACT knowledge that went into building the core
components lost over time, as divergence set in. If this information
were carried along, who knows? - perhaps some day automatic processes
could convert existing EDI implementation guidelines into schemas using
the ebXML core components.
