I agree that this is how it will happen in a lot of cases.
It's good for the big guys if all their suppliers use the
same protocols.

But if you are a big guy, it is very feasible for you
to package up all the technical requirements for
doing businesses electronically either for download
or with a Web interface and take all the cost hurdles
off the SME suppliers altogether.  And it will be
worth it to you to do so.
