Subject: [ebxml-dev] RE: Role of OAG in ebXML BP design
Scott, Thanks very much for the positive feedback on OAGIS 8.0 and the work that was done by the membership and staff. You asked about the role of the OAGI in the ebXML work efforts. I will try to answer the question and please let me know if you have more questions. The OAGI staff and members were involved in the work groups since the first ebXML meeting in Nov. 1999. We had staff or members at all of the meetings I believe. We might have missed Tokyo. In addition, the Open Applications Group formally announced support for ebXML early last year. Our work with the Auto Retail industry (NADA) in the US (Toyota, Honda, and others were also involved) may be one of the larger development efforts using ebXML technologies. Now specifically for BP, we are using that for designing our collaborations moving forward (along with UML, of course). We have a really terrific white paper on our web site describing how to use OAGI with ebXML and specifically BP. If you have not seen it, I recommend you go download it. (Free). It was written by JJ. Dubray and he did a great job. http://www.openapplications.org/downloads/whitepapers/frameworks.htm Strictly speaking, OAGI is technology neutral. We have defined our architectural layers to be independant as possible, so people can use the framework they require for the business needs that drive them. We are supporters of ebXML, but not exclusively ebXML. Does that make sense? Did I answer your question? dc David M. Strictly in terms of BP's, the OAGIS 8.0 release of resources and BOD schemas provides a PHENOMENAL starting point for building a frame of reference for industry collaboration. The question is... How does the OAG organization (and its work efforts) semantically, bureaucratically, and technically "fit" into the ebXML definition, design and implementation? Scott C.
