Hi - as many of you may be aware the Australia-USA Free Trade Agreement [Aus-USA-FTA] has been passed by the USA House of Representatives and Senate and just requires the Australian Senate to pass it probably on 12 Aug 2004. One of the key opportunities in the FTA for Australia is access to the $ 200 Billion Federal Government and $ 200 Billion State Government Procurement Contracts Here is a link to the various Government speakers at the 2nd Reading of the bill on Wed 23 Jun which provides the details of the Agreement. http://www.halisa.net/A/FTA/611AGDS4.htm The OIC XML & E-commerce Special Interest Group [XZIG] has been in existance since 2000 http://www.oic.org/3a4a.htm XZIG is one of the very few organisations that made a submission on to the Aus-USA-FTA Chapter 16: Electronic Commerce and Chapter 17: Intellectual Property We have been working on implementing ISO Standards for Electronic Tenders for Government Procurement and using ISO 8601 http://www.oic.org/z/FZIG/A/ds/ There are 27 US States that have signed the FTA and all 6 Australian States and 2 Territories. Here are the capital cities for those States http://www.oic.org/z/XZIG/A/cs/61-1TAf1.htm We would like to start establishing contact with people in those States and cities that are identified, with a view of working together either on implementing an e-Contracts System or responding to local tenders together using ISO Standards. NEXTS STEPS If this is of interest please send me an e-mail. A link to your web-site would also be appreciated.
