These may be custom or based on a standard such as UNSPSC, NAICS, ISO 3166 etc. However, ebXML Registry standard does not require that a registry include any specific taxonomies other than the canonical taxonomies required by the spec (UNSPSC is not one of them). In the freebXML Registry project [1] we used to include UNSPSC in the past but stopped doing so it is a large taxonomy and not everyone needed it.
