James,
Well now - it is hard to keep good technology down.
IBM are known for their savvy marketing - and clearly they have invested $$$ in adding this to DataPower boxes - so what do they know that you don't?
The security threats to the nations infrastructure is real - and these devices can be lynch pins for mission critical government and industry, power grid, automotive, DoD and financial systems.
Then - for distributed messaging systems which are increasingly needed - as opposed to point-to-point exchanges - the ebXML routing is the best game in town (getting even better with ebMS v3).
Similarly in government arena - they currently have LEXS and UCORE enveloping - but again ebXML is superior technically in packaging, security, authentication and delivery. What is more - there is plenty of good solutions downstream for ebXML that can serve as low cost delivery points as spokes to the DataPower hubs.
Clarification - LEXS and UCORE are OK - for what they have currently been used for - but that also exposes their limitations. Now that DataPower has ebXML in the device - I'm seeing secure government and financial applications will start taking advantage of what that offers.
Christian - good to know you have expertise.
For everyone else - getting started with these devices takes a few weeks to get familiar - but all you need is one hands-on demonstration of exactly what they can do - and I guarantee you will be drooling! Prepare yourself for some sticker price shock though - this is IBM now - but if your customer and applications need these - then the price is relative to the value being delivered - i.e. how much would a security or system breach cost?
Thanks, DW

never mind david being in the ebXML mix. of course he is. the real surprise is seeing IBM in the mix, supporting ebXML - it being "dead" and all.
David,
Good to see you are still in the ebMS/ebXML mix. If you ever need expertise in the area of DataPower, let me know as I have some key resources in this ares (mostly ex-DataPower).
Best Regards,
Christian Franklin

Subject: [ebxml-dev] IBM Datapower XB60 support for ebXML v2.0
IBM have announced availability of the following enhancements for their DataPower devices.
The DataPower device provides firmware accelerated handling of XML and xslt along with secure communications, routing and certificate management.
Basically a XML developers dream tool (speaking from experience with these).
Now add ebXML too for awesome B2B applications; what is not to like?!
WebSphere DataPower B2B Appliance XB60 enhancements include
Updated B2B protocol support with the addition of ebMS v2.0
B2B interoperability through the completion of Drummond Group 1Q2010 AS2 certification
Support for Active/Passive meta-store failover (HA)
Support for multi-step processing in the B2B Gateway Service
