David, et al. Point of clarification: AS1 applies to EDI transactions sent over SMTP and AS2 covers EDI transactions sent over HTTP. AS2 does not necessarily supercede AS1; they are supposed to be peers. In practice, few if any organizations use AS1, while AS2 has garnered something of a following.
