Well ebXML is really a stacked layer of specifications which you can implement in part or in combination, and I don't have customer numbers but I gather that on the domestic US end:

 

1. the UCC and the Drummond group were/are working on ebXML messaging interoperability (http://www.uc-council.org/news/ne_031902.html), so unless vendors can afford the luxury of "build it and they will come", I have to guess there's (pilot ?) customer's ('real business folk') in there somewhere and to your point I'm not sure what type of retail.

2. the OAG has been doing some very practical work with their STAR project and 'automotive Retail'. Best you contact Tony Blazej at OAG.

There must be specific cases but between UCC and OAG, you've covered the lion's share of the US retail world.

 

On the global market, there's been a lot of work in Korea and other countries but I don't have many details.

That didn’t take long to get distributed.  I have talked to a number of organizations that have discussed using ebXML but I think most don’t want to be the first out of the gate.  Is anybody aware of any large retailer that is using ebXML?  Thanks.

I was told by a reliable source that Target Stores discussed the idea of
moving from EDI to ebXML at a recent supplier conference (sorry I don't
mean to start rumors).  There was a recent discussion on the listserv
about people working with Target.  Does anybody have any more
