Subject: [ebxml-mktg] AS2 and ebMS recap (was: Fwd: RE: [EDI-L] <Tech>)
In the reply below to the EDI-L group, I would have liked to include a clear comparison between the two - AS2 and ebXML MS - to the large EDI-audience who are starting to learn about AS2, but know little about ebXML, and explain the benefits of ebXML. That's why I asked, a couple of months ago, the following to the ebxml-mktg-list: "There seem to be a lot of activity in the EDI community moving to EDI message transfer over the internet using EDIINT AS2 in the last months. (Walmart has for instance required ALL their suppliers to move to AS2, forcing most of them to invest in new software and solutions.) SMEs investing today in software to support EDIINT AS2 are not very likely to switch to ebMS in the next decade. I see no signs of similar activity for ebMS. Does anybody know of information which compares the pros and cons of ebMS and EDIINT AS2?" The following headings could be interesting to include in such a comparison. - Technical Features - Adoption Level - Interop Certified Software packages - Industry Suport (Software vendors and Software buyers) If anybody has such information available or has the possibility to write up a brief bullet-point comparison, this could be one important step to spread the awareness about ebXML and ebMS to the large number of companies now shifting from their VANs to internet based transport protocols. wbr Anders Tholén Ferrologic AB Steel 24-7: +32 2 334 2407 (Brussels) Mobile: +46 70 787 6787 e-mail: anders.tholen@ferrologic.com -----Original Message----- From: James Bryce Clark [mailto:jbc@lawyer.com] Sent: den 4 februari 2003 23:11 To: ebxml-mktg@lists.ebxml.org Subject: [ebxml-mktg] Fwd: RE: [EDI-L] <Tech> FYI. We are normally using "self-signed" certificates in the *test* environments, and in the *production* environments different partners use different Certification Authorities, mainly Thawte and Verisign. To read more about the ebXML interoperability tests: http://www.ebusinessready.org/ebxmlms_3Q02UCCFinalReport.pdf Off-list I'll send you a document we've produced about how to aquire and use certificates, which might be useful. The following EDIINT Working Group Draft says "This applicability statement does NOT require the use of a certification authority. The use of a certification authority is therefore OPTIONAL. Certificates may be self-signed." http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-ediint-as2-12.txt Are you using a certificate authority? If so are you using Verisign or another? If you are self-signed, have their been any issues with this? Please add any other relevant comments for any unasked question you have an answer for. Thanks. Ken Cox Brach's Confections, Inc.
