Anju Rathi, Data Registry - Architect, National Data Systems will speak on model extensions to ISO-11179 used in developing the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Corporate Data Registry (CDR). The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Corporate Data Registry (CDR) will collect, systemize, store and maintain information about VHA corporate data to provide internal standards for heterogeneous distributed information systems and support data quality by providing common understanding of data meaning, representation, relation and business rules. The VHA CDR design conforms to the standards identified in ISO 11179 Information Technology - Specification and Standardization of Data Elements and NCITS L8 - Data Representation. The CDR team has extended the ISO 11179 standards to facilitate the following capabilities: Capability to link data standards to the actual data elements residing in the operational systems Documentation of the sensitivity level for the data element Documentation of the business rule for the data element Documentation of the additional metadata to support web-based data dictionary for operational systems Capability to provide interface for Joint Application Development on the web Capability to provide the interface and procedure to execute the standardization process among Submitting Organization, Responsible Organization and Approval Authority on the web. 4. Michael M. Gorman, Whitemarsh Information Systems Corporation will provide a review of the Whitemarsh implementation of data element standardization. Instead of turning onto Bureau Drive toward the main Gate of NIST, turn in the opposite direction (North) onto Bureau Drive and take the second possible right turn to get to the NIST North building. The building has the name "NIST" on it in large letters. (From Interstate 270, driving North, take Exit 10, which loops under the freeway, and then turn RIGHT at the first stop light-this is the intersection of West Diamond Avenue and Bureau drive.)
