Subject: Query Syntax question
In retrospect it seems bad to have two different query model for
attribute and content based queries. Should we use a consistent query
mechanism for Content based and Attribute based queries?
BTW I am personally not very thrilled with W3C XML-QL but thought it
might be an easier thing to get agreement on. But I am still not
comfortable with that suggestion.
What if we used OQL from ODMG
http://www.odmg.org/
instead of SQL-92? It would allow SQL-92 syntax for attribute based
queries and a super set of
SQL-92 (OQL) to deal with object navigation and querying. Does this
scare people? I think it
would still allow attribute based queries to be passed down to a
relational engine. Are there other candidates.
Finally, should Content based query support be optional? It will require
OQL processor in a regrep implementation.
There are free (open) sources available.
Thoughts?
