Subject: Re: Re[2]: Re[2]:today's conference call
Dan, As I pointed out to Mark, we have a span of 17 time zones (I think you may make it 18 or 19). That makes a conference call pretty hard to do without someone being stuck with an awful hour. Could you suggest a time by posting it to the TP list? Please express it as US Eastern time since that's the time we have been discussing. But getting home at 2am and having to show up in the office at 10am does not allow me to take part in it. Would be good if we can have the session brought forward to a more humanly hour for people like me in these parts of GMT+8 . I would very much like to be involved in the upcoming conference call. Participants in the discussion included people from a range of home bases from the US West Coast to Japan, spanning 17 time zones. 4 pm was viewed as the "solution of least pain". 4 pm on the US East Coast equates to 6 am in Japan if my arithmetic is not faulty. People from Europe did not complain about late evening and perhaps there was no one present from Singapore etc. We also attempted to work around the attendees' fixed committments such as other ebXML conference calls. To everyone on the list: Mark Crawford is requesting an earlier start time for the conference calls. I believe that he would be satisfied with 2 pm US eastern time. I have no personal problem with the calls being Wednesday 2 pm instead of 4 pm. To reduce the number of variables, let's consider only Wednesday. Please let me know if Wednesday 2 pm US Eastern Time is or is not satisfactory. If I do not receive responses, I will assume that 2 pm is satisfactory. In order to give people a reasonably time to reply, I am not going to change the time of this week's call. It will be at 4 pm US Eastern Time Wednesday per the previous announcement. Not to beat a dead horse, but I am afraid I just don't understand how a 4 p.m. EST start time which equates to a 4 a.m. start time in Japan (and even earlier start times in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, et al) is more beneficial to facilitating Asia participation. And oh by the way, what about europe where 4 p.m. equates to 9 p.m. or later. There were certainly Asian people at the team meeting on the last day of the San Jose meeting who argued for a time which permits their participation. If you would like, please send me an email requesting the time change and I will post it to the TP list for comments. By copy of this note, I am asking Karl Best to check into why you have been unable to subscribe to the TP list. I am assuming that your subscribe request appeared to be successful. As for posting to list, I would love to do so, but continue to be precluded by the ebXML listserve from any postings.
