What I'm referring to is the specific transport level "security mechanisms" the messaging service needs to interface with, for example SSL, and Realm Security (basic auth) with regard to HTTP. In the case of FTP it's username/password. The transport must be capable of dealing with these security mechanisms because they can prevent transport from occurring.
