Subject: OASIS TC call for participation: ebXML Implementation,Interoperability, and Conformance TC

A new OASIS technical committee is being formed. The OASIS ebXML
Implementation, Interoperability, and Conformance Technical Committee has
been proposed by a number of ebXML PoC participants.

The request for a new TC meets the requirements of the OASIS TC process, and
is appended to this email.

To become a member of this new TC you must 1) be an employee of an OASIS
member organization or an Individual member of OASIS, 2) notify the
committee chair, Philippe De Smedt (PDeSmedt@viquity.com) of your intent to
participate at least 15 days prior to the first meeting, and 3) participate
in the first meeting on 6 August, 2001. You should also subscribe to the
TC's discussion list. (For the procedure for joining after the first meeting
see the TC process at http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/process.shtml.)

The mail list ebxml-iic@lists.oasis-open.org is for committee discussions.
TC members as well as any other interested OASIS members should subscribe to
the list. Do this by sending a message to
ebxml-iic-request@lists.oasis-open.org with the word "subscribe" as the
body of the message. (Note that subscribing to the mail list does not make
you a member of the TC; to become a member you must contact the TC chair as
described in the preceeding paragraph.)

Proposal for an OASIS Technical Committee on ebXML Implementation,
Interoperability and Conformance

Name of TC: "OASIS ebXML Implementation, Interoperability and Conformance
Technical Committee"

Statement of purpose:
It is the intent of the IIC TC to provide a means for software vendors to
create infrastructure and applications which adhere to the ebXML
specifications and are able to interoperate. As such, the purpose of the IIC
TC includes the following:

1. A conformance plan;
2. A set of reference implementation guidelines;
3. A set of base line interoperability tests;
4. To provide guidelines and direction for third-party creation of
conformance laboratories;
5. To provide of feedback, when nesseccary, to the appropriate
organization(s) responsible for a specification.

Additionally, it is intended that the work of this TC leverage the work of
the OASIS Interoperability Conformance TC. Furthermore, the IIC TC will
align its work with the ebXML Joint Coordinating Committee, established to
coordinate the ebXML activities conducted under both OASIS and UN/CEFACT,
and with the work taking place in all of the other ebXML TCs, whether under
OASIS or UN/CEFACT.

IIC TC will also cooperate closely with other standard bodies whose work is
leveraged in present or future ebXML specifications. These include, but are
not limited to, W3C and UN/CEFACT.

Deliverables:
The initial deliverable of the IIC TC is a conformance plan that, at a
minimum, deals with the Messaging aspect of ebXML. The participants aim to
produce a first draft of this specification by approximately three months
from the first meeting of the TC.

The ultimate deliverable of the TC is to be a coordinated set of
implementation guidelines and interoperability tests. In addition, the TC
will work with (a) third-party organization(s) to help it (them) establish
an ebXML conformance test laboratory.

The persons proposing the formation of the TC intend to base their work as
closely as possible on the ebXML infrastructure specifications. It is the
hope of the proposers to finish the first implementation of this concept
within a year of TC formation.

Language in which the TC will conduct business: English

Date, time and place of first meeting:
Via teleconference at 12 Noon, PST, on Monday, August 6th, 2001.

Proposed meeting schedule for first year:
Teleconference calls will be held by the full TC on the second Monday of
each month at 10AM PST, except when a face-to-face meeting is scheduled
during the same week. A tentative date for a face-to-face meeting is August
13th, 2001, in San Jose, CA. Two to three face-to-face meetings are
