Subject: Re: Trading Partner Logical Identification based on EDIFACT or X12qualifiers


In Australia, every company that trades has to have an ABN (Australian
Business Number - I think) when they register with the Taxation office.
Each company also has an Australian Company Number (ACN), but these seem to
have been replaced by the ABN since the GST came in only 1.5 months ago.

The ABN is by nature unique as the Australian Tax Office need to have
records of all business that trade within Australia.

That brings up another question, what about cross border transactions - are
there any international numbers assigned anywhere to companies, or should
the companies involved in the transactions have a number set up?  I guess
this is where registration with some body has it's pluses.
